Trafford is the only borough with a case rate lower than the national average with 43.8 cases per 100,000. Tameside in the North has 121 cases per 100,000 people.
In the week of 21st March, the region’s rate rose from 93.4 cases per 100,000 population to 94.5 cases. Compared to the national average of 55.3 per 100,000, Greater Manchester is faring poorly.
Despite the high case rate, restrictions are already easing.
Schools went back on March 8th as well as some university courses. Social restrictions also eased slightly allowing picnics with one other person and outdoor gatherings of 6 people. Elderly loved ones in care homes could also receive one visitor.
As life returns to normality, everyone’s worried about safety.
Boris will only lockdown again if the NHS becomes overwhelmed, even if cases are rising. As we still face the risk, we need to do what we can to prevent a resurgence.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advises carrying out a risk assessment to establish an effective cleaning routine. Once you’ve identified the most critical areas, the advice is to:
- Wipe down surfaces at least daily.
- Clean equipment after use.
- Disinfect objects that are regularly touched.
- Identify and regularly clean high contact areas such as door handles, telephones, counters.
- Offer free disposable masks for anybody who comes in without a mask.
